I don’t see why we should be upset with this practice. Seems a smart thing to do back in the day. Just puts the signature of certain animators (specifically The 9 Old Men [Ollie Johnston, etc.]) into the Disney classics.

This looks just like a model swap on a computer animation.

It’s weird, making stock footage for animation reference is the easy part. Meticulously painting the characters on-top is the hard part.

  5. @Shimmer311 Drawing …
@Shimmer311 Drawing animation sequences is a ton easier when you can trace each scene. =) Yes, each frame had to be drawn out, but compare: with using old sequences, all the animators had to actually draw on the cells were the costumes as opposed to drawing the entire dance from scratch.

  6. Robin Hood had …
Robin Hood had enough original scenes (read: running through, and then jumping off a flaming CASTLE TOWER) for me not to be too as scene reusing.

  7. let’s see…Robin …
let’s see…Robin Hood (1973), Aristocats (1970) and Jungle Book (1967) were all done within a 10 year period. chances are good the same animators worked on all 3. Sleeping Beauty was done in 1959, which is only 14 years before Robin Hood, so you could still have the same animators. And I agree with those who commented below. It takes a lot of time to create hand drawn animation. Who cares if Disney recycled a few pieces every now and again? Walt Disney revolutionized animation.

    I …

    @Betwixt51
I understand what you’re say… but if they are on a time crunch, how does that make sense? Back in those days they had to draw out everything frame by frame Even in the digital world, (at least in the beginning) … so that means they would have to draw the new character doing the same motion? So thus the same amount of time basically.
Perhaps they just found a style that was easy to animate? I don’t know because I’m not an animator. But I respect them!!!!

@TheVinylmator You heard it from the plant, folks. You too can be a success if you keep every cel of animation you ever draw for “a rainy day”.

  13. The ballroom scene …
The ballroom scene near the end is a generic ballroom dancing scene! If you look at any scene with ballroom dancing, it would be the same. The only reason anyone could make fun of such an amazing company as Disney is if they re jealous Disney is higher then they will ever achieve! Such as you, wasting time looking for seconds in Disney films that are repeated. Disney is an amazing company, and has benefited every single person.

  15. @UkMicky09 Because …
@UkMicky09 Because a few frames of animation can take an entire day, especially when you’re hand-drawing it all. I have a couple of friends who are going for an animation major, and it’s a lot more work than you would think.

  16. The only recycled …
The only recycled animation clips that didn’t appear in this video were some references in “Fox and the Hound” and “The Black Cauldron.”

For example, “Fox and the Hound” had two recycled clips from “Bambi” and one from “Sword and the Stone.” This video did NOT show this one.

OMG! I’ve been watching these movies for years and never noticed. though to be fair to Robin Hood, they had an alternate ending where robin gets shot when he jumps off the tower into the moat, little john fishes him out, takes him to the church and leaves him with maid marion while he goes for the doctor. Prince john and Hiss find them and attempt to kill robin. at the last moment king richard shows up and reclaims his crown, and the movie ends with the wedding scene that you see in the movie.

lol i love these sort of things :D
People can mock them for re-using animation, but it still happens today by other companies who use stuff that’s quicker like Flash or something. And re-using animation goes waaaaaaaaaaay back. Ub Iwerks did the same in the early 1930s. Look at the Flip The Frog cartoon ‘School Days’ and then the Comicolor cartoon ‘Mary’s Little Lamb’. The scene with the teacher singing to the students and them singing back followed by Flip/Mary sneaking in are identical. :D
